Cos I keep forgetting, here are the current End of Life dates for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 :
Windows XP - ONLY for machines patched to SP3 - anything lower is already EOL'd
8th April 2014
Windows Vista
11th April 2017
Windows 7
14th January 2020
I should imagine that they may be subject to change again at some point, but that's the way it is as of now.
I would guess that any XP computer is incapable of running Windows 7 (Vista ? Why bother ????) So it's get a new box or look for another OS. For a lot of users that means binning a perfectly serviceable machine (assuming you don't play games).
Any XP boxes I have left are going over to Linux. I can't see the point in shelling out to Microsoft anymore.
Currently I am using Xubuntu - all the benefits of the Ubuntu repos plus a lightweight desktop - I cannot stand Unity.
It does all I want it to do, with securely and reliably. Can't be bad. Gaming and one or two specialist apps aside, why would you use anything else ?
My guess is that Adobe is in Microsoft and Apples pay and hence why they won't release the Adobe Creative suite - the only reason I could see to use a Windows box. And with current horsepower and things like Virtualbox or VmWare, it is barely necessary anyhow.
Time for a change..............
