Firefox does not clear history properly

I was having some problems with Firefox not clearing data properly by using Clear History. Certain usernames kept on reappearing, some javascript was being remembered etc etc. Obviously this information was being stored by Firefox.

A quick grep through my profile directory revealed a veritable treasure trove of private and personal information. This is inexcusable. Clear should mean CLEAR. End of argument.

If you look you will notice a number of sqlite databases in the profile directory.

places.sglite and sessionstore.js to name but a few.

If you really want to clear Firefox then you need to either delete all these files or delete your entire profile.

You can turn some of this off in about:config

Try these :

browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash

places.history.enabled

signon.rememberSignons

I am sure there are plenty more. There are also lots of interesting items in there that I don't fully understand but I think that it isn't just the cookies that are queried by the data harversters, but your browser too.

The upshot is that Firefox is telling you lies and storing your personal information, and that is really bad IMHO. They have gone down massively in my regard.
